Exam Pattern
- The prelims exam will consist of three two papers namely General Studies & Engineering Aptitude and paper based on engineering discipline.
- Both these papers will be objective type.
- The questions in the prelims exam will carry 2 marks each.
- Every wrong answer will result in a 1/3rd mark deduction.
- The detailed exam pattern is as given below.
Prelims Exam
- The prelims exam will consist of three two papers namely General Studies & Engineering Aptitude and paper based on engineering discipline.
- Both these papers will be objective type.
- Both papers will be offline mode.
- The questions in the prelims exam will carry 2 marks each. Paper I consists of 100 questions and the total marks will be 200. Paper-II consists of 150 questions and the total marks will be 300.
- Every wrong answer will result in a 1/3rd mark deduction.
- The paper I will be of a duration of 2 hours and Paper-II will be of a duration of 3 hours.
Mains Exam
- The UPSC IES main examination is a descriptive type exam consisting of 2 papers of 300 marks each.
- The duration of each paper will be 3 hours.
- Both the papers will have questions from the opted Engineering discipline (Civil Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical/ Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering).
- There will be 8 questions as option, out of which you will have to attempt 5 questions.
- There will be no negative marking in this exam.
- Candidates have to answer in English language only.
- Up to 5% marks may be deducted in case of illegible handwriting.
- Credit will be given for exact, to the point answer using an economy of words, and delivering efficient and effective answers.
